On your marks, get set… Note! An Olympic version of the Samsung Galaxy Note has jumped the gun ahead of this summer’s London 2012 Olympic Games.
The special edition Galaxy Note tablet and Galaxy Y smart phone are offered by O2. They come with a Union Jack design on the back cover, and a chance to win a trip to the Team GB and an Olympic event.
The Note joins the Samsung Olympic line-up alongside the Samsung Galaxy S3. As the official Olympic phone, an S3 will be issued to every athlete to pay for things by waving the phone at NFC-equipped tills.
The Note sports an oversized 5.3-inch screen, perfect for watching the Olympics streamed on the BBC, playing games or doodling with the included S Pen stylus. And you can do all of those things when you’re stuck on a train that isn’t going anwhere because London is rammed with tourists.
Buy the £500 Note or £80 Galaxy Y from O2 and you’ll go into a prize draw to win a visit to the Team GB training camp to see our Olympic hopefuls training. And you could win a pair of tickets to an event in the games themselves, such as volleyball, football or one of the horsey ones.
The Union Jack design on the back cover is quite understated, as these things go — ahead of the Games and the Jubilee there’s already loads of patriotic tat floating around, including all manner of flag-draped gadgets. Even a Union Jack Xbox 360, which is absolutely hideous. It’s good to see Samsung hasn’t gone nuts with the old red white and blue.
Oh, and if you buy a white Note you get a white Team GB lion cover instead.
The athletic Note and Galaxy Y are on sale from O2 stores and online until 24 May. Are you excited about the Olympics? Are you planning to pick up a Note? Take a running leap into the comments or over to our Facebook page.
