HP is adding a trio of sleek slates to its tablet line-up. According to German tech site Mobilegeeks.de, HP is prepping two 10-inch tablets and one 7-incher, with an official announcement expected in the next few weeks.

The HP Slate 10 Plus and Slate 8 Plus feature similar internal specs, running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and housing 1,280×800-pixel resolution IPS displays, 1.5GHz quad-core processors, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. The 10-inch Slate Plus is also expected to pack LTE capabilities.

The second 10-inch tablet is a more high-end model, dubbed the HP 10 Plus. It rocks a sharper 1,920×1,200-pixel resolution screen and will allegedly pack zippier internals, including a mystery quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. The HP 10 Plus should run the same version of Android KitKat as the Slate 10 Plus and Slate 8 Plus models and is expected in a Wi-Fi-only version.

Midrange tablet specs have reached a plateau, and the 8- and 10-inch HP Slate Plus duo help maintain the current status quo with average internals. The HP 10 Plus is a more interesting addition to the tablet landscape, but in order to compete with today’s top 10-inch tablets, which start at around $400, it’ll have to be competitively priced.

Without official prices, it’s difficult to speculate how these new models will compete against the likes of current top and budget tablets. A decent 8-inch tablet, like the Asus Memo Pad 8 , can be found for around $200, and a 10-incher can be found for as low as $250 , so in order for the 8- and 10-inch HP Slate Plus tablets to stand a chance, their speculated $400-plus pricing should be justified with a solid, sleek construction and plenty of software extras.
