LAS VEGAS — Netgear’s best router — the Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wi-Fi Router R7000 — will soon get even better.
The network vendor announced today that it will release a new firmware update that adds support for Netgear’s ReadyCloud feature to the R7000. This means users will soon be able to easily access their home network when they’re out and about.
Cloud connect has been available in routers from D-Link, Linksys and Asus for a long time, but this is a first for Netgear. Netgear says with ReadyCloud, you can easily access files stored on a USB hard drive connected to your router. On top of that, the ReadyCloud app, available for desktop PCs, iOS and Android mobile devices, enables remote users to access local files from any devices connected to the Internet. You can also share files using an email link, and quickly back up photos from your smartphone to the USB hard drive connected to your router at home.
Negear claims its ReadyCloud feature is not only easy to use, but also comes with security, which once was a major concern with similarly configured routers from Asus.
The Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wi-Fi Router was a highly rated router when it was released in late 2013 and is still one of the best on the market. This upcoming firmware update will make it that much better. You can download the firmware later this month or use the automatic update feature within the router’s Web interface.
It’s currently unclear if this cloud feature will also be made available for other Netgear routers, such as the R7500 or the R8000 .
