LAS VEGAS — When it comes to scribbling notes, especially when you’re standing, there’s still no substitute for pen and paper. Of course, this being the digital age, that pen better be smart enough to convert your notes to an electronic format and sync them directly to your phone or tablet.
That’s the Livescribe 3 in a nutshell, but ever since it debuted back in 2013, it’s been an iOS-only affair. Good news for patient Android users: The pen is headed your way.
The developer announced at CES today the forthcoming availability of Livescribe+ for Android. The app will include “key features of the iOS version,” according to Livescribe, including the ability to download notes from Livescribe 3 pens and convert it to digital text.
Users will also be able to create and play back “pencasts” that synchronize audio recordings with handwritten notes. And the pen itself is platform-agnostic, able to save notes to both Android and iOS devices.
Like all Livescribe products, this one still requires special paper in order to effectively digitize your notes.
The Android app will be released this spring for select devices running KitKat 4.4 and above, those that include Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) support.
The Livescribe 3 has a list price of $149.95.
