Fans of Jolla’s smartphone or its independent Sailfish OS have a new device to get excited about. The Finnish device-maker has returned to Indiegogo to whip up sales for its second Jolla Tablet.
This time around, the 7.9-inch tablet doubles the storage capacity of its debut device, from 32GB up to 64GB. It also gets a slightly larger battery — 4,450mAh, up from 4,300mAh — and microSD card support up to 128GB.
There is one huge caveat to the external storage card, and it’s this, said Jolla in an email:
Due to Microsoft’s licensing limitation, cards over 32GB that are formatted in Jolla Tablet will not be readable with Windows computers or devices that advertise microSDXC support (cameras/phones/tablets)
In addition to the new hardware touches, Jolla has laminated the new tablet’s display and added gyroscope and compass sensors. Although the company had promised a proximity sensor, neither tablet is getting it at this stage.
Pricing and availability
Crowdsourcing backers can currently get the 64GB Jolla Tablet for $250, just $30 more than the $220 32GB version (that converts to a sale price of about £165 or $AU320). Jolla says that its pumped-up tablet will eventually retail for $300, or roughly £200 or $AU390.

Some of Jolla’s Indiegogo pricing structure also includes bundled options for the Jolla phone with a tablet, and those who bought the first version can change their minds and switch to the newer model.
The company promises it’ll ship out Jolla Tablets to contributors in the second quarter of 2015.
