We’re just days from the official iPad 3 announcement, but if you really can’t wait, here’s a makeshift effort cobbled together from leaked parts by the team over at M.I.C. Gadget.
The case — which we brought you news of days ago — looks identical to the iPad 2, with the Home button intact, if this is indeed the official front casing. When the invite went out, some speculated the button would be omitted, because it wasn’t pictured.
The site says Apple won’t launch a 4G iPad, as there are too few people using the technology to warrant the extra bulk and shorter battery life inevitable. That shouldn’t make too much difference to us Brits though, seeing as we won’t be seeing 4G until the end of the year at the earliest. Previous rumours have suggested the iPad 3 will be 4G, but we’ll have to wait until Wednesday to find out.
It’s expected to come in the same 16GB, 32GB and 64GB varieties as the iPad 2. While M.I.C. Gadget doesn’t confirm this, we’ve heard from other sources that it’ll also be the same price as the existing iPad. This would also fit with Apple’s traditional pricing strategy, with the new generation of a product costing the same as the previous.
Other rumours? Apple is thought to unveil some serious TV offerings alongside the iPad, including a rejigged Apple TV set-top box and plans for its upcoming TV service. If it does, then you know a standalone TV set can’t be far off — with any luck, anyway.
We’ll be there on Wednesday to bring you news and opinion from the event, so keep your eyes locked on CNET UK. And let me know what you want to see in the comments below or on our Facebook page.
