I know people — who shall remain nameless for my safety — who lose things all. The. Time.
What these folks need is some kind of electronic tether, a way to keep easily lost items like keys and wallets wirelessly connected to their phones.
Gadgets to the rescue! For a limited time, and while supplies last, PricePlunge is selling a Nokia WS-10 Treasure Tag mini proximity sensor two-pack for $13.99 shipped. As recently as a year ago, you could expect to pay $30-40 for just one of them.
These little white squares rely on always-on Bluetooth 4.0 to create a sort of digital leash. Loop one on your keychain, for example, and your Android, iOS or Windows phone will provide notifications whenever it goes out of range. You can also see the tag’s last known whereabouts on a map.
I haven’t tried the Treasure Tags myself, so I’ll turn you over to CNET’s review . Spoiler alert: the product wasn’t perfect. As the reviewer noted, there are smaller trackers out there and some of them can light up, which the Tags can’t.
On the other hand, at $13.99 for a pair, this is an inexpensive way to see if a gadget like this can help you keep connected to those items that somehow keep going missing.
Your thoughts?
Bonus deal: To my thinking, the best backup option is one you can set and forget — especially if you can also forget about paying an annual fee for it. StackSocial is offering a Skyhub 1TB lifetime cloud backup subscription for $49.99. Skyhub is designed primarily for desktop backup and doesn’t appear to have mobile companion apps, though you can certainly access your files on mobile devices. And it normally runs $89.99 per year.
Bonus deal 2: If you’re looking to create a high-end home theater, an AV receiver is the logical — though often expensive — hub. Today only, and while supplies last, Meh has the Pioneer VSX-524-K 5.1-channel AV receiver with HDMI 2.0 for $164, plus $5 for shipping. It runs $230 over at Amazon, where it scored a solid 4.3-star user rating. My only reservation: No Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
Bonus deal 3: Wireless cameras are great for home security, but they tend to be pricey — especially the good ones. For a limited time, and while supplies last, Shelfspace Security (via Amazon) has the Amcrest ProHD Wi-Fi camera for $119.99 shipped. This top-rated model, normally $149.99, features two-way audio, pan/tilt movement, night vision and more. It’s controlled through Android and iOS apps.
