LG Electronics

Bigger is better, especially when it comes to monitors. Of course, a bigger screen means a bigger price, right?

Not today. For a limited time, and while supplies last, Adorama has the LG 27MP57HT-P 27-inch desktop monitor for $149.99 shipped. Right now it shows the regular $229.99 price, but add it to your cart and it’ll drop to $199.99. Then you’ll need to redeem a $50 mail-in rebate, which comes in the form of a prepaid debit card.

That, my friends, is a big, big monitor. On any given day you’d be lucky to find a 24-inch screen at this price, so this is particularly sweet. This size is great not only for everyday computing, but also for watching movies and playing games.

To that end, the monitor offers dual HDMI inputs — one for your PC, another for a Blu-ray player or game console, say.

However, and this is kind of a head-scratcher, the LG lacks speakers. Not that they’d be particularly good ones anyway, but it’s definitely a convenience.

I’m sure some folks will also decry the “limited” 1,920×1,080-pixel native resolution, but that’s to be expected at this price point. Not to be expected: This is an IPS panel, meaning you’ll enjoy super-wide viewing angles and killer color reproduction.

I haven’t found any substantial reviews to share, but LG is obviously a major brand, and I have no qualms about recommending this monitor — especially at this price. Your thoughts?

Bonus deal: It’s not exactly what I would call light summer reading, but it’s important literature at an amazing (if somewhat inexplicable) price: For a limited time, Amazon is offering Alice Walker’s “The Color Purple” for Kindle for 9 cents. Google Play has it for the same price. Alternately, get the three-book “Color Purple Collection” for a mere 17 cents (Amazon | Google Play). Reviews are off-the-charts positive. I first spotted these yesterday, so I’m hoping the deals don’t vanish early today.

Bonus deal No. 2: It’s a sound bar! It’s a Bluetooth speaker! It’s two, two, two items in one! For a limited time, and while supplies last, Newegg has the Apex Digital ASB-900 Bluetooth sound bar for $49.99 shipped. It’s new, not refurbished, and sells elsewhere for at least $80. This 250-watt speaker features an LED display and various digital and analog inputs. There aren’t many user reviews, but the few it has are mostly solid. Update: This sold out very quickly. My apologies! Will keep hunting for a similarly awesome sound bar deal.

Bonus deal No. 3: I’m just going to rename this blog “The Mobilechargerskate” and be done with it. But how can I not share deals like this one? For a limited time, Hisgadget via Amazon has the top-rated Intocircuit Power Castle 11,200mAh dual-USB mobile charger for $13.99 (shipped free for Prime subscribers) when you apply coupon code LOWESTEV at checkout. Sure enough, that’s the lowest price ever for this charger, which has a whopping 4.7-star average from nearly 1,600 buyers. Update: This code is not currently working. I’m checking with the vendor and will share an update as soon as possible. Update No. 2: According to the vendor, the code will be “restarted” at 12 p.m. PT. Please try again after that time!

I wish life could be simple. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. When it comes to Apple’s iPad lineup, which used to have just one model called the “iPad” back in the day, picking which one to buy has become a strangely entangled process. Somewhere between every single model Apple offers is the perfect iPad, …
