DJI adds a 30x zoom lens to its commercial drones

The commercial applications for camera drones seem endless, but some operations, such as cell tower inspections, require you to fly very close to your subject to get accurate imaging.

China-based DJI’s new Zenmuse Z30 camera could makes things much easier for its users, though, adding a 30x optical zoom and an additional digital zoom up to 6x. The drone maker says the capabilities will allow you to get precise visual data from more than 100 meters (328 feet).

Using the company’s DJI Go mobile app, pilots will be able to tap to zoom in on a subject. More details on the camera can be found on DJI’s site.

Drone manufacturers such as Yuneec and Walkera have had cameras with zoom lenses available for their drones for more than a year. This isn’t the first zoom lens for DJI, either: It added the 7x zoom Zenmuse Z3 to its lineup in July. However, it is one of the longest lenses available, giving DJI a competitive advantage in this growing market.
