LAS VEGAS — Power line technology, which turns home electrical wiring into that of a computer network, has always been the fastest way to extend a wired network. And now its connection speed might rival that of a gigabit connection.
D-Link announced Monday at CES 2015 two new adapter kits, the PowerLine AV2 2000 Gigabit Starter Kit (model DHP-701AV) and PowerLine AV2 1000 Gigabit Starter Kit (DHP-601AV), which have top speeds of 2,000Mbps and 1,000Mbps, respectively.
Each of these kits includes two identical adapters, enough to create the first power line connection, D-Link said. The DHP-701AV is equipped with the latest in HomePlug AV2 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology. The addition of MIMO technology allows the adapters to use the fastest two wires in a typical three-wire (live, neutral and ground) installation to achieve speeds up to 2,000Mbps.

The DHP-600AV PowerLine AV2 1000 Gigabit Adapter, on the other hand, uses only a single wire of the electric network to create a connection of up to 1,000Mbps.
Both kits come with power-saving features that reduce power consumption by up to 85 percent, and support 128-bit AES Link Encryption with key management for secure communications.
The DHP-701AV and DHP-601AV will be available in the first quarter of 2015 at the suggested retail price of $129.99 and $79.99, respectively. Check back for full reviews.
