The Inventist Hovertrax takes you on a ride to the future

LAS VEGAS — At CES 2015‘s Showstoppers event, I went hands-on (well, feet-on) with Solowheel’s crazy Segway-like Hovertrax, a two-wheeled personal motorized transport system that you control by leaning. The Hovertrax is self-balancing, so it should keep you upright as long as you’re relaxed. With no hands needed, you can ride around holding a drink in one hand and food in the other (handy at CES), for example, and still operate the vehicle.

To move the Hovertrax, all you have to do is lean forward or backward and you’ll start moving in that direction. To slow down and stop, just stand up straight. The Hovertrax is incredibly simple to operate, and after a very brief learning period, I was off to the races controlling it with ease. The Hovertrax lasts about 4 to 5 hours on a single charge, which lets you travel about 8 miles.

The Hovertrax was originally launched via Kickstarter in 2013, but only made its way to backers in the US in late 2014. Now that Solowheel has fulfilled its Kickstarter orders, the product’s available for all interested parties to purchase. The Hovertrax comes in black or white (both models have red accents), and is available on Solowheel’s Inventist Web storefront for less than a Segway — $995 (which is about £660 or AU$1,230).
