Update: Google has just launched a price protection policy on Google Play, so if you bought your Nexus 7 from it after 14 October, you’re eligible to have the difference refunded. Head here to file your request.
Update 2: Asus got in touch to confirm its UK offer for Nexus 7 owners. You’ll get a £25 coupon for the Asus Shop online store, as long as you’re eligible (see below) — that doesn’t include those who purchased from Google. The original story follows.
Did you buy a Google Nexus 7 just before the 3G version was announced, and the existing model came down in price? Your luck’s just changed.
Asus is offering a £25 voucher to UK customers who bought just before the price took a tumble, SlashGear reports. But as ever with these things, there are some stipulations.
You’ll have to have bought your Nexus 7 direct from Asus or Google Play, and before 29 October, when the 3G model was announced. You’ll also have to register your tablet with Asus, and show proof of purchase to prevent any scams. You can have bought from any shop or online retailer, with the exception of the Google Play store, an Asus spokesman told me.
The deadline for submitting all your info is 30 November, and the voucher will be valid until 31 December. You’ll only be able to use it at Asus’ online store, which is rather limiting. But still, it could come in handy for a Christmas present. Why not get a Padfone 2 for your nearest and dearest?
At the end of October, Google announced the Nexus 7 would come in a 32GB model, and with the option of a data connection, too. Accordingly, the 16GB version dropped in price from £199 to £159, which was how much the now defunct 8GB model cost originally. So anyone who bought a 16GB just before this happened would be understandably peeved.
Asus is looking to offset any mardiness with the voucher.
Even at £199, the 16GB Nexus 7 was cheaper than the equivalent iPad mini, which costs £269. Why so expensive? Hear it from the horse’s mouth.
So which is better? You — our loyal readers — have spoken, and the Nexus 7 comes out on top in your eyes.
Is this voucher enough? Will you be claiming your £25? Let me know in the comments below, or on Facebook.
