CES 2018 wrap

When I first heard about LG Display’s 65-inch rollable OLED TV, I pictured something you’d take home from the poster store: a long tube you could tote around and unfurl wherever you wanted to enjoy big-screen TV. The reality is less futuristic, and so much better. Yes, the TV really does roll up into a tube like paper. But in …

Sony’s high

Sony is no stranger to expensive ultra-short-throw projectors, but its latest example, the LSPX-A1, strives to be different. It’s designed to look like a stylish credenza or side table. The top is artificial marble, the frame is finished in half-mirror aluminum and there’s a wooden shelf below. Turned off, it would blend into a modernist living room seamlessly. Now playing: …

CES 2018 Day One: Robots, Google Daydream and a lot of rain

CES 2018 began with a bang today, or should I say a flood. The first rain to fall on Las Vegas in 116 days swept into the city yesterday, drenching crews who were rushing to open the show. By this morning, the convention center was leaking, Google had to shut its splashy pavilion and rivers were flowing through a hotel …

The X700’s biggest claim to fame? It now supports Dolby …

Panasonic GH5S hits new lows at CES 2018

While the size-to-capability balance of Micro Four Thirds cameras really can’t be beat, the smaller-than-APS-C-size sensors can be a drag in low light.  With Sony’s full-frame, low-light-champion A7S II as competition, Panasonic took a necessary step backward. It created a 10.2-megapixel Four Thirds sensor for the Lumix GH5S, about half the resolution of the 20MP version in the GH5 in …

At CES, Sony’s 2018 A8F OLED TVs still promise peak picture

Sony and LG aren’t breaking any new ground with their 2018 OLED TVs, but that doesn’t mean they won’t end the year as our favorites once again. Organic Light Emitting Diode display technology delivers the best image quality we’ve ever tested, and 2017’s A1E matched its competitors from LG in our testing. The new version’s biggest change is a design …
