Galaxy Note 20 Ultra ongoing review: Let’s talk about camera, battery, that 6.9

After months of lockdown where I live, reviewing the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has been an absolute blast. Samsung’s most advanced phone for power users is expensive — it starts at $1,300 (£1,179, AU$1,894) for the 128GB model — but it’s also stuffed with features and has an arresting (some might say divisive) design, all of …

Galaxy Buds Live: Samsung calls them ‘beans’

Samsung’s got jokes. At least according to a new teardown by tech DIY repair site iFixit, which revealed Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds Live wireless earbuds have internals labeled, “Bean Right” and “Bean Left.” We’re glad we’re not the only ones who think they look like you could lose them in a bowl of chili.  In addition to sharing their shape with …

Samsung gave the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra new stylus tricks. Here’s how they work

The Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are getting some fancy new S Pen tricks. Samsung first added gesture controls with the launch of last year’s Galaxy Note 10, but they were somewhat limited.  With the Note 20, you’re getting more gestures for actions including going back to the home screen, switching between apps and even triggering Smart Select, the …

Huawei P40 Pro Plus’ 10x optical zoom camera puts iPhone and Samsung to shame

Huawei’s P40 Pro Plus is the phone I was waiting for. The company announced the P40 range — which also includes the base P40 and P40 Pro — in March and while the P40 Pro proved it can take decent images, it was the Pro Plus that really pushes boundaries with its imagery.  It’s the first phone to come with …

Put Samsung’s 1TB T5 SSD in your pocket for $140 (Update: Expired)

I kind of wish I had more uses for portable storage because, good golly, it’s so fast and so cheap now. To wit: For a limited time, and while supplies last, Amazon has the Samsung T5 1-terabyte portable solid-state drive for $139.99 shipped — very close to the lowest price ever. The only catch: It’s currently showing an in-stock date of …

Note 20: How do you sell a $1,000 phone during a pandemic? Samsung has a plan

Virtual sales pitches and consultations. Touchless in-store device demos. Deals galore. Those are just some of the plans in Samsung’s playbook for selling phones during a pandemic. Last week, the South Korean electronics giant unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 2 alongside the $999 Note 20, the $1,299 Note 20 Ultra, the $649 Galaxy Tab S7 tablet, the $399 Galaxy Watch 3 and the $170 Galaxy Buds Live earbuds. …

iPhone SE: I’m actually glad that Apple’s smallest iPhone isn’t really that small

Four years after launching the original, Apple announced its new iPhone SE back in April. I imagine that smaller-phone fans collectively jumped for joy upon hearing the news. The iPhone SE, which looks like an iPhone 8 but features the iPhone 11‘s powerful A13 chipset, uses a 4.7-inch display. Apple claims that it’s a “small” phone. And it is the smallest (and cheapest) …
