Samsung’s 512GB DDR5 RAM module is lightning fast

Samsung on Thursday revealed its 512GB DDR5 RAM module, which is capable of more than twice the speed of the DDR4 at 7,200 megabits per second. It’s aimed at handling data-intensive supercomputing, AI and machine learning processes. To give this a consumer-level comparison, Apple’s  $1,000 MacBook Air only comes with 8GB of RAM. The module …

Intel will make others’ chips in major turnaround effort under new CEO

After years of struggling to keep up with competitors, Intel will adopt their core strategy by making other companies’ chips for them, new Chief Executive Pat Gelsinger said Tuesday. Intel largely has focused on making its own chips, but that’ll change with the new and independent Intel Foundry Services business unit. If the shift works, it’ll mark a major turnaround …

Justin Long, aka ‘I’m a Mac’ guy, turns on Apple in new ads for Intel

Apparently actor Justin Long isn’t a Mac anymore.  Long, who appeared in Apple commercials with comedian John Hodgman in the late 2000s (the “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” guys), is now starring in a series of ads for Intel, flipping the script on the campaign that made PCs look like least hip devices around.  In the new ads, Long …

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT GPU gives gaming creators a great midlevel option

You’ve gotta love an industry that keeps tossing out new gaming graphics processors that get snatched out of midair before you can catch them. The latest in what I hope is the last of these launches for a while is AMD’s Radeon RX 6700 XT, the new entry-level graphics card in the company’s RX 6000 generation. It follows the recently launched RX …

Intel’s Thunderbolt pushes into mainstream as faster alternative to USB

Thunderbolt, Intel’s super-speedy connection technology, isn’t widely used. But that may change in the coming year, as more computer makers incorporate the USB competitor into their new models. Intel has hoped Thunderbolt, which debuted in 2011 on Apple’s 2011 MacBook Pro, would become commonplace for computer users. A year later, the chipmaker forecast that “most PCs” would have Thunderbolt by …

Last day to save up to 70% on video games, SSDs, laptops, TVs and more during Best Buy’s 3

It’s a new month, so presumably, it’s time for a new sale at Best Buy, a retailer that has more sales than a six-mast schooner (and yes, I am aware that pun doesn’t work because sail is spelled differently). This time around, Best Buy is having a three-day sale that started Friday night and runs through the end of today. …

From PS5 to Ford F

The biggest news in the automotive industry right now isn’t new electric vehicles or Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s latest comments. It’s a major semiconductor shortage that’s hurting automakers across the globe. Because Ford, General Motors, Toyota and others can’t get certain electronic components they need, they’re cutting production on vehicles like the Ford F-150. And it’s not just cars. There …
