Heavy to very heavy rains continue to batter all five south Indian states being affected by the downpours.
Telangana remains the worst-hit in the ongoing rains with flooding being reported from across the state. So far thirty people have died after heavy rains in the state till Wednesday.
Thousands of people have been left stranded in the state with roads looking like rivers, cars completely submerged and carried along by powerful currents, and buildings almost entirely flooded.

Capital Hyderabad has seen some heavy rains in the past couple of days, said to be the heaviest October rains in a century.

In Hyderabad, eight members of a family, who were watching the water flow at Palace View Colony in Bandlaguda, were washed away due to sudden floods. Two of them were found dead and the search is on for the missing six.

The Indian Army has joined the Telangana in carrying out rescue operations and flood relief and many stranded people have been shifted to safe places in Hyderabad.
Heavy rains have lashed several parts of the city and the state and normal life has been affected.

“The heavy and incessant rains for the last two days due to depression in Bay of Bengal has resulted in flooding of many residential areas of Hyderabad. Raising to the occasion the Army launched flood relief and rescue columns on 14 October 2020 in Bandlaguda area on requisition by the State Government,” a press statement from the Defence Wing of the Government of India read.

“Many stranded people have been evacuated and showing humanitarian values large number of food packets have been distributed. Army Medical teams accompanying the columns are providing essential first aid and medical relief to the stranded people,” it said.
Heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh has also created a flood-like situation in several areas following incessant rain since Monday night.

Coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in Karnataka received very heavy rains since Tuesday morning, leading to waterlogging in cities and damage to property in the rural areas.
The rains were heavier on the foothills of the Western Ghats in interior parts of the district, while some low-lying areas here, including Kottara Chowki, witnessed water logging.
The meteorological department has predicted widespread rain coupled with thunder and lightning in the next two days also.

Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Theni, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari districts while light rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu on October 15.
In Kerala, an alert has been issued for seven out of the 14 districts for heavy rains for Thursday.
