The horrific reports of rapes and murders from Uttar Pradesh continue to haunt. In a second case in the past 10 days from Lakhimpur Kheri in UP, a 17-year-old Dalit girl who had stepped out to fill the scholarship application was brutally raped and murdered.
Just 10 days ago, a 13-year-old girl was also raped and strangulated in the area.
The girl’s mutilated body was found near a dry pond around 200 metres away from her village in Neemgaon. The police said she was killed using a sharp weapon.
There were injuring marks around her neck with a part of her leg appearing to have been eaten by some stray animal, police said.

Superintendent of Police Satendra Kumar Singh told reporters that her post-mortem has confirmed rape.
A report by NDTV quoted the girl’s parents as saying that she had left the home on Monday to visit a neighbouring town to fill up a scholarship form. When she did not return, they informed the police.
“I really don’t know what to say or whom to suspect. She left around 8.30 AM on Monday. We do not suspect anyone,” her uncle told the media.
