68-Year-Old Man Dies After Ambulance Carrying Him Gets Stuck During 'Bharat Bandh' Protest

In a tragic incident, a 68-year-old man who was being taken to a hospital lost his life midway after the ambulance carrying him was stuck in the Bharat Bandh protest by various SC/ ST outfits.

The incident was reported from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. According to ANI the ambulance carrying him could not make it to the hospital on time as the roads were cramped by protestors.

In an act of desperation, his son lifted father on shoulders and ran towards hospital which was 1 km away.

But by the time he managed to reach the hospital, it was too late. He was declared brought dead at the hospital.

Parts of North India including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP and MP was on virtual lockdown on Monday after various Dalit organisations had called for a ‘Bharat Bandh’ protesting what they called is a “dilution” of SCs/STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

At least eight people have been killed in the violence across the states so far. Following the massive protests, the government has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court on the matter.
