49 Rajasthan Doctors Declared ‘Absconders’ For Not Reporting To Duty Even Once In Three Years

Forty-nine doctors have been declared as ‘absconders’ by the health department. They have been absconding from government duties for the past three years. Taking action against them, the health department has sent a list of these 49 doctors to Rajasthan Medical Council for cancellation of their registration.

“We have found that 49 doctors are not coming to duties. They have been absconding from service. The process has been initiated for cancellation of their registration. After cancellation of registration, they will not be able to practice legally,” said Dr V K Mathur, director (health), health department.

Dr Mathur said, “We are still verifying that if there are any doctors out of those 49 who have returned to duties. If some of them have joined, we will modify the list again.”

Health department officials claimed that they have sent frequent reminders to absconding doctors asking them to join the duties. But they did not turn up.

The registration is being cancelled for not fulfilling conditions of bond signed by them.

The health department has sent a list of these doctors to Rajasthan Medical Council. These doctors remained absent for years from government duty. They were MBBS doctors posted as medical officers. They got selected for PG under government doctors’ quota and had to, therefore, sign a bond for serving for at least five years in government hospital but they did not turn up after completing their PG.

These doctors were posted in different government hospitals, including community health centres, trauma centres and district hospitals. When they had joined the services, they were MBBS qualified doctors. They availed the benefits of quota allocated for MBBS doctors working in government hospitals for getting selected in PG courses.

They completed their PG in different specialities. For availing the benefit of quota, they had signed a bond that they will work in government hospitals for at least five years in government hospitals.

Health department officials claimed that they might have joined services elsewhere and kept health department waiting for their services. They have allegedly broken terms and conditions of bond signed with health department.
