In a chilling reminder of the recent Unnao case, an 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped and set ablaze at a village in Fatehpur district here on Saturday. Her condition is critical and she is battling for her life at a Kanpur hospital with 90 per cent burns.

Rape Conviction Rate In India is Still Low At 32%
It has been seven years after the brutal Nirbhaya gang rape that shook the entire nation, but the conviction rate in rape cases in the country is still as low as 32.2 per cent despite laws dealing with sexual assault being made stringent in the aftermath of the incident.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data available for 2017, the total number of rape cases that went to trial in that year was 1,46,201 but only 5,822 of them resulted in conviction. Read More

In a positive step, the West Bengal government is reportedly taking steps to control pollution that results from stubble burning. The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB), according to a report in the Economic Times, is planning to install remote sensors across the state to detect stubble.
