110 New Cases, 2 Deaths Per Million Population In Seven Days, How COVID Is Slowing Down In India

While the COIVD-19 situation across the globe including the US, UK, and much of Europe is taking a turn for the worse, there is some good news for India, the second-most affected country in the world.

Over the past month, the COVID-19 infection rate in the country has been falling and so are the number of people dying from it.

On Tuesday the Union Health Ministry said that 110 new cases of COVID-19 per million population have been reported in the country in the last one week.

In a tweet, Health Ministry said, in USA new cases per million population is around three thousand 964. While in UK it is three thousand 656, in Italy one thousand 563 and in Russia it is one thousand 373.

On Wednesday, India reported as many as 20,550 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total positive coronavirus cases to 1,02,44,853.

The total figure includes 2,62,272 active cases and 98,34,141 recoveries.

With 286 fatalities, the death toll reached 1,48,439.

Kerala currently has the highest number of active cases at 65,039, while Maharashtra currently has 55,672 active coronavirus cases.

Delhi has 6,122 coronavirus cases, while the death toll in the national capital stands at 10,502.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a total of 17,09,22,030 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, including 11,20,281 COVID-19 samples in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state till date. Over 70 per cent of the daily new cases are being reported by 10 states and union territory — Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. 

Data also showed that, in India, COVID-19 has hit men harder than women in India, where 70 per cent of the approximately 1.47 lakh people who died since the national outbreak in January were male.
