ZTE announced Wednesday that Sprint will carry its unique LivePro projector hotspot , which debuted earlier this year at CES 2014. Capable of beaming images and movies onto a wall, as well as connecting users to the Internet, the device will launch July 11 and cost $299 with a two-year carrier agreement, or $449.99 prepaid.

The Sprint LivePro features a 4-inch touchscreen and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It can beam 80- to 120-inch images with 1080p input on nearby walls and surfaces via its microSD card slot or HDMI cable connection, making it useful for impromptu movie nights or work presentations on the go.

At the same time, it can also connect up to eight mobile devices to Sprint’s 4G LTE Spark network or its 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi network. The ultraportable device is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a 5,000mAh battery, which has an estimated run time of 2.5 hours over HDMI for its projector, or 10 hours for hotspot use over Wi-Fi. It’s equipped with 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, and Bluetooth connectivity as well.

Quirky and unique, the LivePro projector fills a niche that not everyone may need filled. When we first checked it out during CES, even we were skeptical of its appeal. However, for people in the market for a personal hotspot and who find the device’s ability to display images or presentations compelling, this curious accessory may be worth looking into.
