YouView has today added Yesterday and really added Really to its lineup of catchup TV channels, joining the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Dave on the online service.
The futuristic set-top box lets you scroll back in time on the programme guide so supported channels’ on-demand services are accessed in the same way as live TV, in nearly seamless fashion.
Yesterday is like a British History Channel, with a mix of old BBC staples like Who Do You Think You Are?, Antiques Roadshow and Coast, and drama-documentaries such as Nuremberg and Hitler: The Rise of Evil.
Really, meanwhile, blends decent US drama like Hart of Dixie and Grey’s Anatomy with horrid reality shows where people demean themselves to get on Freeview — like Embarrassing Bodies, Hotter Than My Daughter, Addicted to Boob Jobs and 101 Things Removed from the Human Body. Yes, really.
The two channels are part of UKTV, which is jointly owned by BBC Worldwide, Auntie’s commercial arm, and US company Scripps Networks Interactive.
“UKTV is committed to making its bold and innovative programmes and channel brands available to as many viewers as possible,” said Dan Fahy, UKTV’s head of commercial development. “The launch of seven-day catch-up services for Yesterday and Really on YouView is another important milestone for us in ensuring viewers have ‘anytime, anywhere’ access to our content.”
A new £149 YouView box that doesn’t have the original’s recording feature was launched at the end of last year. It’s free on TalkTalk’s £7.50 per month Essentials package. The more able £170 box is free on more expensive deals from TalkTalk and BT, with a variety of extra channels and other bolt-ons available too. Check out all the available deals here.
