Vudu brings first Dolby Atmos and Vision streaming titles to Vizio

Streaming service Vudu has announced the first 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos titles are now available for owners of Vizio Reference series TVs, with more brands to follow.

The 11 streaming titles from Warner Brothers include “:Mad Max: Fury Road,” “American Sniper,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” “The Gallows,” “San Andreas,” “Man of Steel,” “Jupiter Ascending,” “Edge of Tomorrow” and “Into the Storm.”

At the moment the titles are available for streaming only on the Vizio Reference series, but Dolby says the titles will be available on more equipment in the future. Vizio also announced that users who buy a Reference series TV will get a copy of “Mad Max” thrown in.

Meanwhile customers will also be able to stream Dolby Vision-only titles including the likes of “Vacation,” “Focus,” “Get Hard,” “Run All Night,” “The Lego Movie,” “The Great Gatsby,” “Sherlock Holmes,” “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” “The Hangover” trilogy and “Magic Mike XXL.”

Dolby Atmos is a next-gen surround technology that incorporates height information inside the normal Dolby TrueHD stream and requires a new receiver and ceiling speakers or add-on modules to work. Dolby Vision is the first standard for high-dynamic range video which offers higher contrast and a broader number of colors to be displayed.

Last month, Vudu announced its first 4K streaming titles in association with the Roku 4 but the device isn’t capable of showing the films in HDR.
