Top 40 must

Every time we do an update to our list of must-have Blu-ray discs we always get a bunch of comments about how passé it is to buy physical discs, digital streaming is the way to go.

Maybe it is, but some people still like to own physical discs (often those discs now come with a digital copy). And we even buy a bunch to test out new TVs in our labs.

Though my face is at the top of the column, the list was compiled with input from editors John Falcone, Ty Pendlebury, and our in-house video guru David Katzmaier, who looks at a lot of video content in his day-to-day testing of products. We also keep an eye on AVS Forum’s Blu-ray picture quality and audio quality threads, and have always appreciated the site’s tiered rating system.

This list is not set in stone, and we’ll be adding and removing discs as new ones come out (hopefully, sooner rather than later). As always, feel free to make comments and suggest your own personal favorites. They may get added to the list in the future.

For those of you who are interested in 4K content, maybe someday we’ll end up doing a must-have 4K Blu-ray list (4K Blu-ray is now officially known as Ultra HD Blu-ray). But don’t expect that for another year or so.

It’s also worth nothing that many of the summer blockbusters are coming this fall, so we should have a more substantial update to the list soon.
