YouView
UK TV service YouView has welcomed aboard Netflix, in a move that makes the Internet-connected set-top box a more tempting alternative compared to Sky.
YouView, which launched in the summer of 2012 after many years of delays and hold-ups, melds on-demand and upcoming programmes in its listings, letting customers scroll backwards through the TV guide to find shows they missed. Like Sky and Virgin Media’s TiVo, YouView can also record programmes to a hard drive. BT offers YouView as part of its TV packages, or you can buy it outright from a retailer, which means you don’t pay any monthly subscription charges for your TV.
YouView isn’t unique in offering Netflix by any stretch, with the red-hued streaming service — which costs £7 per month and in recent years has experimented with bespoke programming like “House of Cards” and “Orange is the new Black” — already residing on a huge range of smart TVs, tablets, phones and games consoles.

Netflix isn’t available on Sky boxes however, nor is it available on Sky’s Now TV set-top box, with the British broadcaster preferring to keep its Web-reliant rival at arms length, for now.
Netflix joins the BBC’s iPlayer, 4oD, ITV Player and Demand 5 in YouView’s on-demand app roster, though currently the new app is only present on YouView boxes from BT or Humax. TalkTalk and Huawei’s boxes will get the app “early next year”, according to YouView.
Existing Netflix customers can login through the app using their Netflix usernames and passwords. BT customers who sign up for the telco’s TV service will have the option of having their Netflix subscription added to their BT bill.
