LG’s Gallery OLED TV (55EA8800) is on display at the IFA Show in Berlin, and LG is claiming that it’s the first truly wall-mountable 55-inch OLED TV.
Early models of OLED TV were notable for the thinness of their screens, but often made up for this with weighty stands, where much of the internal electronics were housed.
The Gallery is actually bordered by the picture frame you see in the image — it’s not just a cute way to display the TV for the product photo. The frame is important, because that’s where the 2.2-channel speakers live. Fittingly, LG is calling the technology the Canvas Speakers.
Nor is the Gauguin painting on the screen just part of the photo shoot. LG has said that the Gallery will have Gallery Mode, where the TV will display “high-resolution digital images of paintings by legendary artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin”.
Not much else is known about the Gallery, including pricing or potential availability. Given the slow start for OLED globally, we don’t imagine that the Gallery will be racing its way into retail stores any time soon.
