Sonos gets jazzy with the Play:1 Blue Note Limited Edition speaker

Sonos is making only about 4,000 Play:1 Blue Note Limited Edition speakers.

We’re fans of Sonos’ entry-level wireless speaker, the Sonos Play:1 . Like Sonos’ other speakers it only comes in black or white — until now, that is.

To honor 75 years of Blue Note Records and its year of collaborations, Sonos’ design team whipped up a custom blue speaker that features a “vertical fade from dark navy to cerulean blue.” It’s pretty sweet looking, but it will cost you $50 more than the regular Play:1 at $250 when it’s released in the coming weeks. It’s £220 in the UK, with no Australian pricing yet, but the UK price converts to around AU$430.

Sonos says it’s only made 4,100 of them and it expects that they’ll sell out fast.

Aside from the swanky custom paint job, the Blue Note Play:1 also comes with an exclusive Blue Note radio station built into the main menu of the Sonos app. Sonos says you get to enjoy a year of the jazz imprint’s Artists Selects, where you can “listen vinyl-style to handpicked selections from greats like Robert Glasper, Jose James, Terence Blanchard, Ambrose Akinmusire, Lionel Loueke and Don Was himself, who has curated 125 of his personal favorites.”

This is in addition to the other two exclusive stations, Born in Blue and Blue Note 101, which all Sonos customers have had access to since October.

As you can see from our pictures, Sonos sent over an early unit to us. No word on when exactly the speaker will be available for purchase, but you can sign up for an email alert on Sonos’ site to get first access to that info.
