Sony has withdrawn its 3D television promotional bundle less than two weeks after announcing it due to supply “challenges” and leaving some customers out of pocket.
At the start of June, Sony announced it would be bundling a free PlayStation 3, two pairs of glasses and a receiver with its “fast-tracked” range of HX800 televisions.
However, Sony has announced it is withdrawing the deal and customers who buy one of these televisions will now need to pay an extra AU$766 to receive these items.
“Due to challenges involved in fast-tracking a limited supply of Sony 3D TVs into Australia we have had to revise our promotional plans. As a result there will no longer be a bonus offer available at this time. There may be additional promotions when regular supply commences. Limited numbers of Sony 3D TVs are available now at select retailers,” a Sony Australia spokesperson said in a statement to CNET Australia.
“It’s disappointing”, said one CNET Australia reader who discovered he was unable to claim a PS3 for his HX800 after trying to redeem the offer.
According to the reader, the Sony salesperson had made a “genuine enough mistake” when he told him the TV would be eligible for a PS3 and that the salesperson was also seeking further clarification from the company.
The reader said if he couldn’t come to an agreement with Sony he would ask for his money back.
“I don’t want anyone else in my situation,” he said.
Sony will continue its PS3 promotion with its 2D models, however. The full list of eligible models can be found here.
