One of the great debates around Ultra High Definition (UHD) — or 4K, as Sony still calls it — has been the lack of UHD content to watch on the devices.

In a post on its US-based blog, Sony has hinted that it has a solution for this:

In the next couple of weeks, the XBR-84X900 television will ship to customers who placed pre-orders since the product introduction in September. As an extra bonus, included free with the purchase will be the world’s first 4K Ultra HD delivery solution, complete with preloaded, native 4K entertainment. Not some goofy 4K content shot as a demo. I’m talking full-length feature Hollywood productions, and available exclusively to purchasers of Sony’s 84-inch 4K Ultra HD TV.

In Australia, the 84-inch UHD TV is known as the KD-84X9000 — the same as in Japan — and is technically identical to the US version. The local retail price is AU$24,999, significantly higher than its nearest competitor, the LG 84LM9600 (AU$15,999). Perhaps some exclusive Hollywood content would go some way toward increasing the perceived value of the package.

We’ve contacted Sony locally to see whether the offer will stand for Australian purchasers, and we’ll update this story when we get a comment.
