Sky Go app adds Sky Sports highlights, Android coming soon

Let’s see that again: Sky Go has added highlights from Sky Sports matches, races and other sporting events. You can now catch up on the best bits of the Monaco Grand Prix, England’s five tries during the recent drubbing of Barbarians, and the least boring bits of the cricket tests between England and New Zealand at Headingley.

These are just some of the sporting highlights available today in the On Demand section of the Sky Go app for iPad and iPhone. Sadly, Android is left behind again, but a version for Android phones and tablets is on the way.

If you’re a Sky Sports customer and you pay for Sky Go Extra then you can also download highlights to watch when you’re away from an Internet connection.

Sky Go now offers access to live Sky TV, catch-up and on-demand, and other highlights. Channels include all six Sky Sports channels, Sky Movies, Sky News, Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Arts, MTV, Disney, G.O.L.D, Nickelodeon, NatGeo, History, Eden, Eurosport and ESPN.

Sky has taken some stick for taking so long to bring the Sky Go app to Android phones and tablets. You can watch Sky on most HTC and Samsung Galaxy phones, and a handful of other Android blowers, but the only Android tablets that support the app are the Google Nexus 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.

Sky says highlights of sporting action are coming to Android “soon”, but gave no indication whether we’re talking weeks or months or what.

Sky has also recently introduced Sky Sports 360, which lets choose from over 20 different camera angle to replay goals, saves, tackles, and near-misses during a live game.

One thing Sky won’t want to replay is the recent hacking incident, when over the bank holiday weekend Sky’s Android apps were hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army, so Sky Go, Sky+, Sky News and others had to be yanked out of the Google Play store. They’re back now though.

Do you watch Sky on the go? What sporting action are you most looking forward to this summer? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our highlight-packed Facebook page.
