Block ads from appearing in apps on your Samsung Smart…
1:03
Another week, another problem with Samsung’s Smart TVs. Fresh off the heels of the company’s recent “spygate” scandal, reports have surfaced that claimed Samsung was placing ads inside of apps on some Smart TV models. One such app affected by this was Plex, an app that lets people stream movies and music stored on their computers to their TVs.
Plex has said that it had nothing to do the rogue advertisement and Samsung chalked it up an internal error. CNET section editor and TV guru David Katzmaier spent a few hours streaming from the Plex app on a recent Samsung Smart TV in an effort to recreate the issue, but he found no success. It would appear that Samsung has fixed the problem.
Regardless, if you don’t want to see ads in the future, there is an easy fix. Users on Reddit and the Plex forums suggest you opt out of Yahoo’s Privacy Policy. This can be done by pressing the Menu button on your Samsung remote and scrolling down to Smart Hub. From there you must select Terms and Policy, followed by Yahoo Privacy Policy near the bottom of the page. Then, simply check the box to disagree with the policy.
