As the streaming video marketplace in Australia starts to ramp up in anticipation of Netflix’s arrival next month, Presto has launched a smartphone app for both Android and iOS, allowing you to stream the subscription service’s TV and movies on your mobile device.
Presto is an offering by pay-TV provider Foxtel that began as a movie-on-demand service, recently adding TV series to the mix as part of a joint venture with Seven West Media. Users can subscribe month-by-month to either Presto Movies or Presto TV separately at AU$9.99, or a combined offering of the two for AU$14.99 to access the service across all devices.
Presto had initially only been available on tablet or desktop, and the smartphone offering puts it in line with rival Stan, a joint venture between Fairfax and Nine Entertainment, which launched with a smartphone app.
The Presto app, however, works with a limited number of compatible devices. On iOS you’ll need an iPhone 5C, 5S, 6 or 6 plus.
On the Android side of things it’s a little more complex. Availability for each manufacturer breaks down like this:

The Presto smartphone app also works on the Telstra Dave made by ZTE. Presto does offer Chromecast compatibility, but it will only stream TV and Movies in standard definition.
