Panasonic TH37PV500: Vive la Viera

If you’re the sort of person that buys furniture at Heals and clothes from Dolce & Gabbana, then this new Viera television will fit right in to your highly coiffeured lifestyle. It’s not cheap at around £2,700, but this 37-inch TV looks gorgeously modern sitting on its silver stand.

Plasma may be slightly out of fashion next to the sharper charms of the LCD symposium, but the Viera’s picture quality banishes any memory of the washed-out pictures of plasmas past. This eighth-generation panel is superb, and firing up the Xbox 360 dashboard was like marvelling at a beautiful fireworks show for the first time. We quickly set about downloading the new Fight Night Round 3 demo through Xbox Live, and the near-photo realistic graphics will make anyone believe that the £3,000 investment in TV and console is worth it.

With high-definition compatibility, an HDMI input and an integrated digital tuner, the Viera looks like a winning combo for those who like their TVs big. It’ll get the thrashing of its young life in a full review later this month. -GC
