Next season’s fullback-nutmegging, net-bursting, ball-boy-booting Premier League highlights will be shown online by The Sun and The Times in a £20m deal signed by News International.
The newspaper group News International, which owns 39 per cent of Premier League broadcaster BSkyB, will show online clips of all 380 games.
News International’s online clips kick off next season at the websites for The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times. Matches played on Saturday will have their highlights appear after the final whistle, while other games will have up to eight 30-second clips of goals and other key moments available during the match itself, on an app on your phone.
60-second clips will then be available online for a week from Monday morning, at each newspaper’s website.
The deal runs for three years, to the end of the 2015/2016 season.
BSkyB has also bought the rights to highlights of the 226 games not shown live. Sky has already retained the rights to show most games live, with BT screening some games too. Sky will show 116 live games, and BT 38 live games, edging out ESPN which showed some games live this season.
The BBC will continue to show highlights on Match of the Day.
