The name’s ray… Blu-ray. All 22 Bond films appear on Blu-ray for the first time this year in the Bond 50 Blu-ray collection. Shocking… positively shocking.
Mix a Martini — shaken, not stirred, obvs — and invite Mish Moneypenny or Pushy Galore round to enjoy the girls, guns, gadgets and high adventure in high definition — 00720p, perhaps?
All 22 films from the 50 years of the MGM series featuring Ian Fleming’s supersuave superspy appear in the Bond 50 box set. That’s one box bursting with Bond, whether it’s Sean Connery’s defining line in nonchalant espionage, George Lazenby’s square-jawed single outing, Roger Moore’s safari-suited judo chops, Timothy Dalton sulking, or Pierce Brosnan’s sleek reboot.
Blond Bond Daniel Craig is in there too, with the latest films Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace appearing ahead of Bond 23, Skyfall, also starring Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes and French actress Bérénice Marlohe.
Selected Bond films have been available in Blu-ray form for a while, but this is the first time every film will be available in the format. The new discs will contain a whopping 130 hours of bonus Bond, as well as the movies.
Classic series like James Bond are proving extremely popular in Blu-ray form, not only looking their best but packed with a wealth of extras, documentaries and bonus bits and bobs. Star Wars is the bestselling Blu-ray of all time, with the Indiana Jones films rumoured to appear this year too.
The Bond 50 box set costs £90. It skis off a cliff and opens a Union Jack parachute to land in shops in October, when Skyfall falls into cinemas.
