LG PZ850T Pentouch TV lets you doodle on screen

TVs are rather more interesting at this year’s IFA than the usual tiresome who’s got the biggest willy-waving. Not to be outdone by Samsung’s TV that promises to get you fit, or Toshiba’s glasses-free 3D, LG has launched a telly you can draw on.

That’s right, you can let your artistic side flourish, or just wait for Piers Morgan to come on and scrawl obscenities and rude doodles next to his head — whatever takes your fancy.

Okay, so it’s not quite as easy as waiting for his CNN chat show to start and running up to the screen, stylus in hand. You have to press a button on the remote to turn the screen into a 50- or 60-inch blank canvas (depending on which model you plumped for), ready for you to get to work with the two bundled PenTouch styluses.

So no drawing straight on to live TV. But you can load on your own pictures, so you could screengrab Morgan’s flabby face on iPlayer, load it on to the TV and scribble away. We’re not sure if that’s the intended use — it looks like it’s aimed at families teaching their children the joy of art, but there’s no reason you can’t do both.

Connect it to your computer, and you can print your creations, too. Other options include a built-in slideshow feature, so if you’re sitting round chatting you can have it on in the background. There’s also a calendar and a photo frame mode, for adding a pretty border to your pictures.

It’s a fully equipped 3D set, able to convert standard footage to the third dimension, and comes with one set of active shutter 3D glasses. On the connections side, you’ve got two USB 2.0 ports and three HDMIs.

So what’s the first thing you’d draw? Scribble your answers in the comments section below or over on our Facebook page.
