Accessory Power

This is an update of a deal I first wrote about last year. What’s changed? The price, of course: it’s now even lower!

In a few days it will be April, and that means we’re heading into the second biggest gift-giving season of the year: Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and graduation. And what kid, mom, dad or grad wouldn’t love a Bluetooth speaker that can go just about anywhere?

Such speakers come in all shapes, sizes and prices. But few offer such an awesome mix as this: for a limited time, and while supplies last, BuySpry (via Amazon) has the GoGroove BlueSync OR3 portable Bluetooth speaker for $16.99, shipped free with Amazon Prime. Regular price: $24.99.

If you replaced the “3” in “OR3” with a “B,” you’d have an apt description of this speaker. It’s an orb, not some boring old brick. This particular orb is available in your choice of three colors: black (with a blue racing stripe), “blue splatter,” and “green splatter.” Personally, I like the black one best, but to each their own.

The speaker features onboard play/pause/pair/skip controls and can run for anywhere from 16-32 hours (!) on its rechargeable battery, depending on the volume. If you’re not planning to pair it with, say, your phone or tablet, you can use the audio-in jack to connect just about any audio source. If you do pair it, it can double as a speakerphone. I especially like the included three-year warranty, which is pretty impressive considering the price.

Speaking of which, it’s hard to believe such an inexpensive speaker could be even halfway decent. But over 800 Amazon customers gave the OR3 an average rating of 4.2 stars.

Consequently, these may not last long at this price. Whether for yourself or someone else, this is one speaker that’s tough to pass up!

2K Games

Bonus deal: Game time! Regular Cheapskate readers know of my love for BioShock, and I was pretty excited when it arrived on iOS last year. But the $10.99 price tag? A little steep. Today, however, and for what promises to be a limited time, you can get BioShock for iOS for $2.99, the lowest price I’ve seen. Take note, though: based on user reviews, you need a current (read: fast) iPhone or iPad for smooth gameplay. (And, frankly, I wouldn’t bother playing this on an iPhone. It really demands a bigger screen.)

Bonus deal No. 2: I hate inkjet printers. Hate them! And yet I occasionally need to print in color. So this deal is seriously tempting: Staples has the Samsung C410W Xpress color laser printer for $99.99 shipped (plus tax). List price: $230. You can print via USB or Samsung’s Android/iOS apps, or just tap an NFC-enabled mobile device to pair it for wireless printing. As with any printer, though, investigate the cost of consumables before buying.
