Sky Go has added Android support for a slew of new smart phones, including Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and the Sony Xperia Z1.
A total of six new mobiles have been granted support for the broadcaster’s on-demand service, with the HTC One SV, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia M and LG G2 also welcomed into the fold.
That brings the total number of supported smart phones up to 45. Popular Android gadgets like the Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One X are already supported.
Android fans have criticised Sky in the past for only offering limited support for its Sky Go app, which lets you stream video from Sky’s library of on-demand TV and movies.
Sky recently admitted it had fallen short when it comes to Android tablet support, later promising a new app specially for 10-inch tablets. The Note 3 and Xperia Z1 have only recently been released, so it’s good to see support for these new smart phones added quickly.
Revamped TV search
Sky’s also given its TV box search function a much-needed boost, with the broadcaster adding several new ways to find the programme or movie you’re looking for.
Using Sky+’s search feature with your remote now lets you trawl through Sky’s vast library of telly by actor names, sports teams or events.
You can also use the new search function, which will be applied as an update to Sky+ HD boxes that are hooked up to home broadband, to search for particular channels — handy if you can never remember where to find Film4 or MTV in Sky’s labyrinthine listings.
Sky says the new search tool aims to get the correct suggestion, “Within typing three characters, 70 per cent of the time.”
