Adult-video purveyor FyreTV has created a native third-party Android app for Google TV.
One of Google TV’s lesser-known features is its ability to install third-party apps from sources other than the Google Play Store, and it’s this feature that FyreTV is exploiting.
GigaOM reported that FyreTV — a company that hopes to be the “Netflix of porn” — has created a Google TV-optimised Android app that is available for download from its website, thus circumventing Google’s unwillingness to offer adult content via Play.
Other adult video services have sought to optimise content offerings for Google TV — Vivid Video recently created an HTML5 site designed for Google TV to make its videos available.
But Fyre TV told GigaOM that it preferred the native app approach: “From what we have seen, users are more likely to engage with the service when they feel that it is a ‘part’ of their device, and not just another website.”
Due to the not-safe-for-work nature of the content, we have not embedded a link to FyreTV in the body of the text.
