Foxtel has announced that its Xbox 360 service is now live all across Australia — no exceptions.
This means that users in regional areas without access to satellite services can now get access to the 35+ channels offered by Foxtel through the game console.
The service is unmetered through BigPond, and requires an Xbox Live Gold membership, which will cost AU$39.95 for a four-month subscription or AU$79.95 for a 12-month subscription, as well as a high-speed internet connection.
In addition, Foxtel’s packages start at AU$10 per month, and channels include Fox 8, National Geographic, Showtime, TV1, BigPond Movies, Showtime, Cartoon Network and Fox Sports Play. There’s still no NRL, although live AFL is available for an additional pay-as-you-go AU$20 per month.
A new one-off channel for the London Olympics has also been announced. Coming in at a cost of AU$50, it offers sports fans access to eight different Olympics channels, with every gold medal event shown live.
Foxtel’s packages start at AU$45 for the Foxtel box service, but it offers far more channels — but with the Xbox service, you don’t have to pay Foxtel’s installation fees.
Overall, it seems like a decent package, especially since HD is available if your internet connection can handle it, and there are no long-term contracts with the Xbox service, so you can drop in and out as you need.
