If you weren’t lucky enough to be among the hundreds of people who watched crews brave heavy winds at a New Mexico trash dump in April for the successful hunt for a horde of Atari E.T. game cartridges buried in 1983, you can now get your first peek at the action.
Today at San Diego Comic-Con, Xbox Entertainment Studios, which will soon be shuttered thanks to Microsoft budget cuts, announced the first trailer for “Atari: Game Over,” the documentary about the once-high-flying video game company, and more specifically, the 1983 burial of what was thought to be thousands, or even millions, of E.T. game cartridges. The game was a financial disaster that’s often credited with being one of the leading factors behind Atari’s failure as a major company.
