Apple TV now up for preorder at Best Buy

Interested in getting the new Apple TV? You can now preorder one at Best Buy.

The retailer is offering the 32 gigabyte version for $150 and the 64GB version for $200. Clicking the preorder button gives you an option to pick up the Apple TV at your local Best Buy outlet or ask for it to be shipped to your home. Both options list a release date of November 4.

The 2015 Apple TV is the first major revamp of the device since 2012, but it faces competition from similar media devices made by Roku, Amazon and Google. In its battle for consumers, the new Apple TV offers access to such video services as Netflix, Hulu Plus and HBO Go. It also features universal voice search via Siri and a new touchpad-based remote control.

One key to its success will be the support for “universal” apps and games that can be played across the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. That selling point will rely on how quickly developers can deliver apps that work smoothly on mobile devices and your big screen TV.

Apple TV will be available at Best Buy retail outlets, but a spokeswoman for the company couldn’t say exactly when.

On Monday, the Cupertino, California, company opened up orders for its new set-top box with a range of delivery times depending on how quickly you want it. The pickup option simply says: “Coming soon.” Free two-day shipping promises delivery between November 2 and 4. Next-day shipping will get it to your door between October 30 and November 3 for an added cost.
