ABC won’t fast track Doctor Who on iView

With new episodes airing from 31 March, the ABC won’t be repeating last year’s online fast-track performance.

Last year, the ABC made itself a Friend of Gallifrey by airing new Doctor Who episodes on iView “within hours” of their premiere on the BBC.

It was a successful move for the ABC, with the first episode of the new season smashing iView’s viewership records.

However, it won’t be repeating the performance. Over at Gizmodo, rampant Whovian Alex Kidman has been told by the ABC that iView will be a “normal catch-up service” for these Doctor Who episodes, meaning that they’ll be online an hour after being shown on ABC1.

As Giz pointed out, however, TARDIS aficionados can gain some comfort from the fact that the episodes are at least arriving on free-to-air faster than usual — in fact, it’s the quickest the episodes have arrived on ABC 1 to date.
