This is what Apple’s Smart Battery case looks like after 5 months of use

Back in early December, Senior Editor Scott Stein reviewed Apple’s Smart Battery Case for CNET. I was working on story about the “World’s Thinnest iPhone case” and asked Stein to lend me the case for comparison and noticed that it had held up pretty well over the last five months but showed some signs of …

Space program’s greatest gift to humanity: Stink

Granted, you could wear any pair of underwear for a week. But things could get pretty gross if you did. But Danish company OrganicBasics is in the process of creating SilverTech “odorless” underwear — and odorless socks — that are infused with bacteria-fighting and heat-regulating silver that the company says is a key ingredient in space suits. The material is …

Apple expects you to use your iPhone or iPad for 3 years

My father put to rest his iPhone 4S last month and picked up an iPhone 6S. He had that 4S, which came out in the fall of 2012, for almost four years. That’s about a year longer than Apple assumes most consumers will hold onto their phones, according to a webpage on Apple’s site that answers questions about Apple and …

The number seemed big but few people were terribly surprised by the news. After all, PC sales have been …

Bose changed its headphones to satisfy Apple, and everybody wins

Over the years the headphone plug or connector on Bose’s headphones has changed, going from L-shaped to straight. In the headphone world, the conventional wisdom once was that a L-shaped plug was typically more durable. Also, the stubbier L-shaped design took a blow or tug better, putting less stress on a device’s headphone jack. We talked with Sean Garrett, Bose’s …

Why the cheapest iPhone ever is still a bad deal

It seems like I write this story every time a new iPhone comes out, but I’m going to write it until Apple stops equipping the entry-level version of its phones with a paltry 16GB of storage. Once again, that’s the case with the new iPhone SE, which starts at $399 for the 16GB model and then jumps to $499 for …

iPhone 5/5S cases fit new iPhone SE

Apple’s iPhone SE may be new on the inside, but aside from some minor design and cosmetic differences it has the same chassis as Apple iPhone 5/5S. And that means all those “old” iPhone 5/5S cases will fit the new iPhone SE, an Apple rep and several case manufacturers have confirmed. Not only does this mean iPhone SE owners will …
