84-Year-Old Gives Up Everything He Earned To Establish Library With Over 2 Lakh Books

Back in the day, when the Razakars were on a terror spree in Hyderabad state and trying to resist the integration of the state into the Dominion of India, a boy who was going to school decided to open a library in Yellanki, a remote village in erstwhile Nalgonda district.

But it was not to be as the feudal landlords who did not want people to be educated prevented that idea from becoming a reality.

That boy grew up to be a lecturer, a principal and an award-winning writer in Telugu literature.

Gave up everything

Now at 84, Dr Kurella Vittalacharya has given up everything he ever earned to establish a library with around two lakh books in the same village, as per The New Indian Express.

The village is now in Ramannapet mandal in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district. He wants others not to suffer as he did.

It all began in 2014 when he opened a small library at home with 5000 books. Eminent writers, poets and professors got impressed by the initiative and donated books which grew to 2 lakh.

“I didn’t want others to face the difficulties I endured during my days as a student. It is worrisome to see that others who suffered just like me are forgetting their roots after getting well-settled in cities. Even though they see others suffering, such people don’t do anything to help them in some way,” he said.

What he failed to do as a boy, he did as a man. In fact, he has ensured that the library remains even after his death.

Now that what taking an initiative and putting others before yourself is all about.
