iPhone 4G: Is this the new iPhone? What’s with all the buttons?

It sucks to lose your phone in the pub — but it’s a whole world of fail if you lose a prototype of the next iPhone, currently nicknamed the iPhone 4G. Engadget reports that an iPhone 4G was found on the floor of a bar in San Jose, California — a mere drunken stumble from Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino.

Further evidence this is indeed the fourth resurrection of the Jesus phone comes from a spy-shot of the iPad in development, which seems to include a peek of the same iPhone prototype in the corner.

If it’s all true, the specs are shocking — a front-facing camera, a flash on the main camera, several buttons on the sides, an odd 80GB of storage and a glass back that could be transparent to radio waves. It could also use the half-sized micro SIM that’s used by the iPad.

In other iPhone rumours, Apple has booked a room for 22 June at the San Francisco conference centre where it launched the iPad and the iPhone 3GS, hinting we’ll see the next iPhone on that date. The Wall Street Journal also reports there will be a second iPhone model for the CDMA phone network, which is used by some operators in the US in competition with the GSM network we also use here in Blighty.

Opinion on this pretender to the iPhone crown is mixed here at Crave — is it boring and cluttered, or sleekly sexy? Let us know in the comments what you think.
