BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Pearl 3G: BlackBerry, but very slightly better

If you’ve been waiting for a BlackBerry that’s just slightly different from all existing BlackBerries, you’re in luck. Two freshly picked BlackBerry smart phones have joined the ranks of the Qwerty cuties — the BlackBerry Bold 9650 and BlackBerry Pearl 3G — and neither rock the BlackBerry boat.

According to a leak reported in TheStreet.com, the Bold 9650 has a 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi — so far, so identical to the Bold 9700

The BlackBerry Pearl 3G updates the venerable Pearl 8110 design for those of us who want a slimmed-down phone that can still handle masses of email missives. It has a compact Qwerty keyboard that crams two letters on to each key, making the phone smaller than the traditional BlackBerry design. The Pearl 3G also has a 3.2-megapixel camera, with GPS and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi.

Both phones have the optical trackpad launched on the Curve 8520, but don’t appear to be running the new 6.0 version of the BlackBerry operating system, which was leaked by the Boy Genius Report blog last week.

News of the phones came early after one of RIM’s trained PR beavers chewed through the cable that runs underneath the company’s email-server igloo in Canada. We’re heading to a BlackBerry event today where we hope to get our hands on the new phones, so stay tuned for more details on specifications, price and availability.
