Virgin Media VM800: Six months free Interwebs

Six months ago, we were all actually looking forward to the World Cup, bow ties weren’t cool, and the iPhone 4 was just a twinkle in Steve Jobs’ eye. Six months on the Web is even longer. Think what all you pay as you go phone owners have missed out on, not like those hoity-toity smart-phone owners with their la-di-dah unlimited data. But now the tables are turning, as unlimited data goes the way of Robert Green’s England chances and the Virgin Media VM800 phone is offered with six months of free data.

The VM800 is built by budget handset-maker
Alcatel and branded with Virgin Media colours. It’s available on Virgin’s pay as you go network. It uses the super-speedy Opera Mini browser for Web surfing and offers up to 9 hours talk time.

The phone sports a Qwerty keyboard, a 2-megapixel camera, an MP3 player and an FM radio. It throbs with up to 4GB of microSD storage.

The free data has a fair use policy of 25MB per day, which adds up over a 30-day month to 750MB. That’s about in the middle of the contract data deals offered to owners of the iPhone 4, so not too shabby.

The Virgin Media VM800 is yours for a paltry £40 when bought with £10 talkytime. That buys you 300 free texts and your six months’ free data. Happy surfing.
