The follow-up to the Samsung Galaxy Spica has made its way online, and it looks a tad familiar. We first reported on the Samsung i5800 last month, referring to it as the Galaxy 3 phone. It appears we were only half right, as this phone looks to pick up the name of Galaxy Teos when it hits carriers around the globe.
A second version of the i5800 has also been spotted online bearing the name Galaxy Naos. It is said to be an Orange France exclusive when it arrives, presumably later this summer.
Sporting Android 2.1 with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface, the Teos and Naos definitely aren’t super phones by any stretch. The processor runs at 667MHz, which is actually slower than the 800MHz chip in the Galaxy Spica. Other features include a 3.2-inch (240×400 pixels) WQVGA capacitive touch screen and a 3-megapixel camera.
While the lower-resolution screen and slightly smaller design allow for better one-handed operation, the difference in terms of viewable screen may be a deal-breaker for demanding users. As a refresher, the Galaxy Spica screen is 320×480 pixels, common among midrange Android phones.
Rounding out the phones is a microSD card slot and support for Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), HSDPA, aGPS, and 1500mAh battery. These days, I would be surprised if an Android phone did not feature the aforementioned options.
It’s reported that the Galaxy Naos will sell for one euro on selected contracts and will be available in black and white versions. I’d expect a similar price point for the Teos as well. Don’t be surprised if we see one of these two designs arrive north of the border later this year either.
